[Hey, she can be considerate when she tries. Sometimes. There are times it doesn't work out too well...but at least with this it's easy enough to be polite.
But yes, the matter of her rotting limbs and the dragon.]
It's magic somehow caused it. Usually something like that wouldn't affect me - I regenerate pretty quick! But it left me in quite a sorry state.
[Don't mind her as she holds her arms out though, the flesh looking good as new.]
[ He makes a note to stay away from that dragon if he ever has the chance to go near it. Especially because... ]
I saw it on the monitors on the station and felt something of that effect. Someone told me it was worse up close, but I hadn't imagined it would be to that magnitude.
[ As nice as this conversation is, once it comes to a natural stop Akechi realizes he really should get going. So he elects to do just that, taking a step back from the door again. ]
Anyway, my apologies for interrupting you. I should let you get back to your nap.
Oh, no! I was born there! Everyone who might've come before us was lost, I'm afraid... I only know a couple of us besides Sensei who are older than me and still around.
There isn't any place to go. The rest of the world's been destroyed, our island is probably one of the only land masses left... And I'm not sure how we'd really get to any other places... [They trail off, tapping thoughtfully at their chin with a little frown]
[ Once again, that's just a bit concerning - but when Diamond explains more it starts to make more sense. It also starts to sound more and more interesting. ]
According to Sensei, there were six meteors that crashed into the Earth, destroying it and all life, millions of years ago--or more. All that's left is our island.
[At least that's as far as they all know. They haven't had reason to doubt it.]
[ Wow, look at him go. Ren really seems to know his stuff, so Akechi simply steps back and lets him work. Then Ren flips a switch and... nothing.
Nothing at first, that is, but a few moments later there's a distant, heavy clunk, and nearby whine, and then a few nearby floodlights click on, illuminating the platfrom Ren stands on and highlighting a close-at-hand panel box. ]
Looks like you found something! Do you think it's stable enough for me to climb up as well?
[He has to raise his voice in order to be heard. Now that Ren can actually see better, there looks to be a release of some kind. He pulls a lever and a ladder drops from the scaffolding.]
[ Yikes, that's loud - but it doesn't look like it's going to draw unwanted attention or cause any unwanted collapses. Akechi hesitates for a moment, then steps towards the ladder. He gives it a shake, then tests his weight on it, and then scales it. A few moments later, he pulls himself onto the platform alongside Ren. ]
Thank you. Let's hope everything else holds up just as well.
[The catwalk did give a lot better access to the everything in the room. But now that they can both see, there's some kind of equipment lining the walls. Perhaps used for maintenance on the giant things still hanging around unused?]
[ Akechi's gaze also drifts to the equipment lining the walls, and now that he feels a little more in his element he doesn't hesitate to approach. It doesn't take him long to locate something that looks like a control panel, and even less time after that to dig out the little toolkit he was given before setting out. ]
Here. These are the sort of things we'll be on the lookout for.
[ He taps the panel, which consists of a powered-off screen with a keypad and several other buttons underneath it. ]
It would be best if we could get them on and use them to analyze these machines, but if that doesn't work then just harvesting them directly should be helpful.
[Trying to analyze anything would be difficult. Just trying to access someone else's scroll at home was difficult without a password. He supposes there are ways to force the answer, but that's a little beyond what they're trying to do. They don't want to break it. Just study it.
Wait...that gives him an idea. He starts peering around the area more.]
I feel like this is an area where a lot of maintenance would be done. If that's true, there'd be people who know how to fix things. And if they're people who know that, wouldn't there be manuals?
[ Unlike Yusuke, Ryuji is pretty easy to read, so all Akechi can think is that it's pretty incredible that even Ryuji is acting weird andcagey. He's beginning to strongly suspect that something else is going on around here.
He'll have to look into it later. For now, however, he'll just play along. ]
Only since just before they sent us down here.
[ He gestures, a bit vaguely, to the wall of snow around them. ]
It seems I'm a bit late, however. I keep running into familiar faces.
[ Two hands it is, then. Akechi's so absorbed in studying the 'little' bat and trying to figure out what it is that Riku's arrival catches him off guard. He doesn't visibly startle or anything like that, but he does turn to give Riku a puzzled, curious look when he shows up and explains what it is. Although... ]
I've never even heard of one of those.
[ It sounds a little ominous, though. Maybe he shouldn't be handling it so casually...
Well, for now he'll just answer Riku's question. ]
I am. Sorry for intruding. I was trying to find an unoccupied room and it seemed as though this was the only way to search.
[Riku takes note of that look, wonders what to make of that… he doesn't appear to be startled much or frightened by Riku's sudden entrance or Highwind's appearance. Someone who has seen some more outlandish things too, perhaps? Anyway…]
That's not surprising. He's from an entirely different realm, where dreams and nightmares take physical form.
[Hence the name. He nods.]
Yea, it doesn't seem like the Nadril are big on organizing our stay. Don't worry about it.
[He walks over to the kitchen cupboard to sort away their groceries.]
My name's Riku. Have you had opportunity to find your bearings yet?
[ 'Outlandish' is certainly a word for it - though truthfully, sheer curiosity could also be enough to make Akechi ignore his normal sense of caution in this situation. Regardless, though he looks curious about the whole 'physical manifestation of dreams' thing, he doesn't seem especially surprised.
But hey, at least Riku is a name that sounds nice and normal to him. Akechi smiles and offers out his hand. ]
Goro Akechi. It's a pleasure to meet you.
[ Though as for finding his bearings... ]
Not quite yet, I'm afraid - but it seems like most people here are as disoriented as I am.
[ Akechi doesn't seem surprised by the mention of the Apollo mission - that part he knew - but he looks pleasantly surprised when he hears the words 'Hubble telescope'. ]
Is it?
[ That's pretty fucking cool, actually. ]
I've never seen pictures of it, just the ones that it took.
[Oh cool...he actually knows what he's talking about. That actually gets Slaine to show a little more life, becoming more and more animated as he speaks.]
It's incredible, isn't it? Did you know the pictures that were sent back from it were in black and white - they had to add in the color based on data they received. It also was unable to focus when they first launched it and they had to send up a team to more or less give it a corrective lens.
[And then, realizing he's rambling-]
Ah sorry...it's not often I meet someone who knows what I'm talking about.
[Let him live...he's a nerd. At least its not like they stumbled upon the blurays for BBC Planet Earth or some shit. If there's one thing more exciting than space to Slaine it's the natural world itself.
At least Akechi isn't telling him to shut up and seems to be listening to him. That's...nice.]
You wouldn't think it, right? But it's true. It always amazed me that people could create such a thing...granted all of Earth's tech was overshadowed by Martian tech where I'm from but still, I think it's impressive in its own right.
July
DIVA
Akechi is fine, then.
[ Nice, points for Diva for being so considerate, even if she is some kinda vampire... person.
... Wait, what? ]
I'm sorry - did you say it made your limbs rot?
Re: DIVA
[Hey, she can be considerate when she tries. Sometimes. There are times it doesn't work out too well...but at least with this it's easy enough to be polite.

[Don't mind her as she holds her arms out though, the flesh looking good as new.]
I'm okay now though!
no subject
That... must have been pretty unsettling. Did it have that effect on everyone it came in contact with?
no subject
[And that's putting it lightly.]
It did, to those who got too close. It also made you lose your mind if you listened to its shrieking long enough.
[Which had been....unfortunate in her case for those who were in her general vicinity. Barely anyone made it out alive.]
no subject
[ He makes a note to stay away from that dragon if he ever has the chance to go near it. Especially because... ]
I saw it on the monitors on the station and felt something of that effect. Someone told me it was worse up close, but I hadn't imagined it would be to that magnitude.
no subject
[That's honestly impressive. It shows on her face too as she gets a better look at him, leaning closer.]
You're lucky you weren't down here then.
no subject
[ He pauses, then lets out a soft laugh. ]
'Lucky' seems accurate.
no subject
[So...count your blessings??? Or something to that degree.]
I'm just glad it's gone.
no subject
[ As nice as this conversation is, once it comes to a natural stop Akechi realizes he really should get going. So he elects to do just that, taking a step back from the door again. ]
Anyway, my apologies for interrupting you. I should let you get back to your nap.
no subject
[She doesn't have any problem with him leaving, nor will she stop him. After all, she is feeling a bit tired still. Naps are important.]
Bye bye.
DIAMOND
[ ... Hold up, is Diamond part of a cult? Akechi looks a little concerned. ]
I... see. And you all went to this island willingly...?
no subject
Oh, no! I was born there! Everyone who might've come before us was lost, I'm afraid... I only know a couple of us besides Sensei who are older than me and still around.
[This is not helping their case.]
no subject
I see. And you've been there your whole life? You've never left at all?
no subject
There isn't any place to go. The rest of the world's been destroyed, our island is probably one of the only land masses left... And I'm not sure how we'd really get to any other places... [They trail off, tapping thoughtfully at their chin with a little frown]
no subject
'Destroyed'? Do you know what by?
no subject
[At least that's as far as they all know. They haven't had reason to doubt it.]
no subject
[ Well, that'd certainly do it. Though since Diamond brought it up just a moment ago, Akechi supposes it's alright to ask... ]
If you don't mind me asking, how old are you?
[ Whatever Diamond, Akechi is pretty sure they aren't human. ]
no subject
Well, I'm not as old as Yellow, but... About 3,400. Give or take a couple of years.
no subject
Well. He wouldn't have quite believed any of this, either. ]
That's... incredible, actually. Humans are lucky to live even a hundred years, and you're--
[ Really old, though that's a pretty rude way of putting it. Akechi opts to simply fall silent instead. ]
REN
[ Wow, look at him go. Ren really seems to know his stuff, so Akechi simply steps back and lets him work. Then Ren flips a switch and... nothing.
Nothing at first, that is, but a few moments later there's a distant, heavy clunk, and nearby whine, and then a few nearby floodlights click on, illuminating the platfrom Ren stands on and highlighting a close-at-hand panel box. ]

There! That should work.
no subject
Thank you. Let's hope everything else holds up just as well.
[ But now it's time to get to work. ]
Have you found anything that stands out sofar?
no subject
[The catwalk did give a lot better access to the everything in the room. But now that they can both see, there's some kind of equipment lining the walls. Perhaps used for maintenance on the giant things still hanging around unused?]
no subject

You're right! If we can find one of those I bet it'll tell us everything we need to know.
RYUJI
[ Unlike Yusuke, Ryuji is pretty easy to read, so all Akechi can think is that it's pretty incredible that even Ryuji is acting weird andcagey. He's beginning to strongly suspect that something else is going on around here.

Only since just before they sent us down here.

RIKU
[ Two hands it is, then. Akechi's so absorbed in studying the 'little' bat and trying to figure out what it is that Riku's arrival catches him off guard. He doesn't visibly startle or anything like that, but he does turn to give Riku a puzzled, curious look when he shows up and explains what it is. Although... ]

Not quite yet, I'm afraid - but it seems like most people here are as disoriented as I am.
HARU
[ And... Haru is also just going to roll with it? Well, Akechi isn't about to complain. The easier this goes the faster he can get out of here. ]
Something like that. I've only just arrived, so I thought getting into someone's good graces was worth the effort.
[ Since he's obviously not going to manage that with anyone from home. ]
I can't say I've had much luck yet, however.
[ Maybe Haru wants to join him and lend a hand?
Almost certainly not. But he can at least extend his implied invitation. ]
SLAINE
[ Akechi doesn't seem surprised by the mention of the Apollo mission - that part he knew - but he looks pleasantly surprised when he hears the words 'Hubble telescope'. ]
Is it?
[ That's pretty fucking cool, actually. ]
I've never seen pictures of it, just the ones that it took.

no subject
It's alright, no need for apologizes. I can understand being excited over something like that.
[ Not really, actually, but he'll say it anyway. ]
And while I'd heard about the lens being improperly polished, I never realized that the images were in black and white.
[ So Slaine taught him something new! ]
no subject
At least Akechi isn't telling him to shut up and seems to be listening to him. That's...nice.]
You wouldn't think it, right? But it's true. It always amazed me that people could create such a thing...granted all of Earth's tech was overshadowed by Martian tech where I'm from but still, I think it's impressive in its own right.
